Abohar shootout victim succumbs to injuries; family stages protest

Abohar: A young man, who was critically injured in a shooting incident in the Sant Nagar area of Abohar on Sept 27, died while undergoing treatment at a Ludhiana hospital on Monday night, triggering protests by his family and locals over alleged police inaction in the case. Fazilka SSP Gagan Ajit Singh arrived at the scene with a team and assured the family that strict action would be taken against the accused.

Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar described the incident as deeply tragic, affirming his firm support for the grieving family. He urged the police to conduct a fair probe.

According to reports, victim Ajay Kumar sustained bullet injuries in his stomach while leaving a meeting at the Valmiki temple in Sant Nagar on Sept 27. The deceased’s brother, Akash alias Bhalu, accused the police of negligence, saying a case was registered on the basis of Ajay Kumar’s statement from hospital but the police failed to arrest accused Sagar Nepali.

He alleged that Nepali was being shielded by AAP leader Shiv Lal Doda, father-in-law of the party’s constituency in-charge, Suhani Doda. Akash alleged that a dispute had previously occurred regarding the construction of a shed at the Sant Nagar Dharamshala (community hall), and the attack was orchestrated due to the enmity with Shiv Lal as Ajay was a witness in infamous murder of Bhim Sain Tank, who was brutally chopped off at the latter’s farmhouse of in 2015.

The court had sentenced Shiv Lal and his nephew Amit Doda to 20-year imprisonment for their role in the incident. Shiv Lal was released on bail on Feb 8, 2026.
