Chhattisgarh businessman in city for meeting found dead in hotel

Full story

Chandigarh: A 56-year-old businessman from Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Deepak Mittal, was found unconscious in his room at a five-star hotel in Sector 17 on Wednesday morning. Hotel staff rushed him to GMSH-16, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police said Mittal checked into the hotel on Tuesday evening. His room was booked for two people.

He was scheduled to attend an important meeting at the Markfed office in Sector 35 on Wednesday morning. According to preliminary investigation, a waiter entered the room around 6am on Wednesday and found Mittal lying unconscious with the door of the room ajar.

The waiter tried to wake him but received no response, following which he informed the hotel management. Hotel staff rushed Mittal to hospital and informed the police.

During initial investigation, police reportedly found liquor bottles and some medicines in the room. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including whether excessive alcohol consumption or a combination of alcohol and medication may have contributed to his death.

However, the cause of death has not been established. Police said it would be premature to draw any conclusions at this stage.

Mittal’s viscera samples have been sent for forensic examination. Investigators are also questioning a woman who reportedly accompanied Mittal to the hotel during the night and left in the morning.

Police are trying to establish the sequence of events before his death and determine whether he had shown any signs of illness. Mittal had been dropped at the hotel by his driver, police said.

Investigators are examining the hotel’s visitor records and other evidence. The hotel management issued a statement saying, “We are saddened by this unfortunate incident and offer our deepest condolences.

We are extending our support to the family and assisting the authorities.”You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Chandigarh | Silver Rate in Chandigarh | Bank Holidays in Chandigarh | Public Holidays in Chandigarh | Chandigarh AQI | Weather in Chandigarh | Petrol Price in Chandigarh | Diesel Price in Chandigarh | CNG Price in Chandigarh | LPG Price in Chandigarh Stay updated with the latest Chandigarh news.
