Jaipur: North Western Railway (NWR) has intensified its crackdown on ticketless travel during the festive season, with special flying squads conducting surprise checks across trains and stations. The drive, which will continue beyond Diwali, generated Rs 1.566 crore in ticket-checking earnings between Oct 12 and 18, with an average of 3,027 cases detected daily.
Checking teams inspected trains at Jaipur Junction, Durgapura, Gandhi Nagar, Dausa, Bandikui, Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Alwar stations. Special drives were also conducted at Phulera, Sikar, Dehar Ke Balaji and other stations to identify passengers travelling without tickets or with irregular tickets.“Travelling without a ticket is an offence and we have been checking trains to detect and penalise passengers travelling without a ticket.
This campaign is going to continue post-Diwali, and our teams are working to discourage without ticket travel,” NWR chief public relations officer Amit Sudarshan said.“The message is loud and clear. We are not going to encourage the practice of travelling in trains without ticket.
The surprise inspections would continue after Diwali as well,” he added. According to railway figures, NWR earned an average of Rs 22.37 lakh daily through ticket checking over the seven days.
Jaipur division recorded the highest average daily revenue at Rs 8.21 lakh, followed by Ajmer at Rs 5.48 lakh, Jodhpur at Rs 3.97 lakh and Bikaner at Rs 3.47 lakh, an officer said. Jaipur also recorded the highest average daily number of cases, penalising 1,050 passengers a day.
Ajmer followed with 747, Jodhpur with 536 and Bikaner with 504. Together, the four divisions accounted for an estimated 21,189 cases during the week.
Daily collections fluctuated during the period, with the highest revenue of Rs 26.06 lakh recorded on Oct 12. Collections stood at Rs 21.52 lakh on Oct 13 and Rs 24.91 lakh on Oct 14, before dropping to Rs 19.54 lakh on Oct 16.
Revenue rose to Rs 24.68 lakh on Oct 17 and fell to Rs 19.2 lakh on Oct 18.
