Shimla: Over 10.25 lakh devotees visited seven prominent shrines across Himachal Pradesh during the Ashwin Navratri from Oct 11 to 19, while more than 1.04 lakh vehicles were recorded at these shrines during the nine-day festival. Shri Naina Devi shrine recorded the highest footfall of over 3.95 lakh devotees, followed by Shri Jawalamukhi with 1.80 lakh devotees, Shri Chintpurni with 1.39 lakh devotees and Shri Bala Sundri at Trilokpur with 1.06 lakh devotees.
Shri Chamunda Devi received 70,500 devotees, Shri Bajreshwari Devi 69,400 devotees and Shri Baglamukhi 65,000 devotees. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the Himachal Pradesh Police for ensuring safe, peaceful and smooth darshan for lakhs of devotees during the festival.
Appreciating the dedication and professionalism of police personnel, Sukhu said ensuring the safety and convenience of pilgrims visiting the state’s prominent shrines was an important responsibility of govt. The CM commended the coordinated efforts of the police, district administrations, temple trusts, Home Guards and other agencies in facilitating a smooth pilgrimage.
Managing the large influx of devotees was particularly challenging at shrines located in hilly terrain, where narrow approach roads and limited parking facilities posed logistical constraints. The Himachal Pradesh Police made elaborate arrangements for crowd management, traffic regulation, parking, queue management and public safety to ensure that pilgrims could offer prayers without unnecessary inconvenience.
The CM particularly appreciated police personnel who remained on duty for long hours to manage crowds and facilitate the movement of devotees. He also acknowledged the cooperation from temple authorities, volunteers, residents and pilgrims in maintaining orderly arrangements throughout the festival.
Sukhu appealed to citizens and visitors to use the Emergency Response Support System - 112 – the round-the-clock emergency helpline – whenever police, fire or ambulance assistance was required. DGP Ashok Tewari also commended the district police chiefs, supervisory officers and personnel deployed during the Navratri festival for their efforts in maintaining law and order and facilitating pilgrim movement.
He reiterated the Himachal Pradesh Police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and convenience of every pilgrim and tourist visiting the state.
