'The OG Tiger': Delhi Capitals appoint former India spinner as spin bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027

Full story

Delhi Capitals (DC) have appointed former India spinner Amit Mishra as their spin bowling coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. Mishra, who played 162 IPL matches for four franchises, will take up a coaching role in the tournament for the first time after retiring from professional cricket last September.

Mishra represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants during his IPL career."The OG Tiger has returned! Amit Mishra, our highest ever wicket-taker, is now our spin-bowling coach," DC wrote in a post on X.

Mishra is among the leading wicket-takers in IPL history, with 174 wickets from 162 matches. He also holds the record for the most hat-tricks in the tournament, having taken three during his career."A tiger is the one who never leaves his prey.

Dilli is my heartbeat. We will try to give the happiness to the Dilli fans, which they have been waiting for these many years," Mishra said in a video posted on the franchise's social media handles on Wednesday.

Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the 2026 season and are yet to win an IPL title. Mishra's IPL career began in 2008, when he took a five-wicket haul in his first match.

That performance included the first of his three hat-tricks in the tournament. He took his other two hat-tricks in 2011 and 2013.

No bowler has taken more hat-tricks in the league's history than Mishra, who represented Haryana in domestic cricket. Known for his flighted leg-breaks, Mishra played in every IPL season from 2008 to 2024 except 2022.

He played his last IPL match for Lucknow Super Giants in 2024 and finished his career in the tournament with 174 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37. Mishra represented India across all three formats between 2003 and 2017.

He played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is for the country. Stay updated with the latest Asian Games 2026 news, check the Asian Games medal tally and complete Asian Games schedule.
