Mumbai Police are reportedly investigating whether a group accused in the firing incident involving Tiger Shroff's vehicle had also surveyed Ranbir Kapoor's residence in Bandra. The development has widened the probe into an alleged conspiracy linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Investigators are examining the suspects' movements, the supply of firearms and the possible involvement of additional individuals. According to India Today, police told court that the attack on Tiger Shroff was allegedly carried out at the order of Anil Pandit, an alleged associate of the gang.
Accused allegedly surveyed Ranbir Kapoor's residence The investigation has brought Ranbir Kapoor's Bandra residence into focus after police reports indicated that the accused had conducted a recce of the property. India Today reports that Investigators are examining whether the surveillance was connected to the alleged conspiracy or whether the suspects had other plans involving Bollywood personalities.
Police have also been tracing the suspects' movements before the firing incident. However, the available information does not establish whether Ranbir Kapoor was a confirmed target.
The reported surveillance has prompted investigators to examine the possibility of a wider plan involving celebrities. Salman Khan was allegedly the initial target According to reports, the suspects initially planned to target Salman Khan after arriving in Mumbai.
They allegedly surveyed his residence but reconsidered their plan after noticing the police personnel deployed outside the property. Investigators believe the accused subsequently focused on Tiger Shroff.
Police reports said the suspects used fan posts and Instagram pages to learn that the actor visited a football ground in Juhu every Sunday. They allegedly considered him a comparatively easier target because his public movements involved fewer security arrangements.
The suspected change in target forms a key part of the investigation. Police are examining how the accused gathered information about the actors and whether the alleged plan involved other individuals.
Three accused remanded to police custody Reportedly, the Mumbai Crime Branch brought three key accused from Kota, Rajasthan, to Mumbai on Wednesday. A magistrate's court remanded them to police custody until October 31.
The accused were identified as Rehan, alias Sukka, from Sonipat, Haryana; Ritik Kurmi, alias Roshan, originally from Begusarai, Bihar, and currently living in Mumbai; and Phool Singh from Haryana. Police sought 14 days of custody to recover the firearms allegedly used in the crime and investigate the motive.
Investigators also told the court that two mobile phones had been destroyed. They said call detail records and other electronic evidence needed to be collected.
According to police, CCTV footage and the tracking of a motorcycle allegedly used in the shooting helped identify the suspects. Defence lawyers Ajinkya Mirgal and Satyabrat Joshi opposed extended custody, arguing that the accused had already been questioned during transit remand.
The court subsequently ordered their continued custody. Five more suspects detained in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Commissioner of Police Raj Tilak Roshan said five people, including two women, had been apprehended in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
They were being brought to Mumbai for further investigation. Reportedly, Roshan said technical analysis and interrogation had helped investigators identify a wider network allegedly involved in procuring and supplying firearms.
Police conducted simultaneous raids with intelligence inputs and assistance from Delhi and Haryana police. Delhi Police identified four suspects as Kunal, 21, and Sumit, 19, from Sonipat, along with Radha, 23, and Babita, 23, from Uttar Pradesh.
According to Delhi Police, Kunal allegedly collected a pistol and 20 rounds from Amritsar on Anil Pandit's instructions, accompanied by Sumit. Radha and Babita allegedly travelled to Mumbai with the weapon.
Police describe Anil Pandit, 32, as a US-based gangster from Panipat and an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Investigators are examining his suspected role in the alleged conspiracy and the movement of weapons.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan continues to receive heightened security following the firing incident outside his residence in 2024. According to ANI, Mumbai Police have provided him with Y-plus security cover, including round-the-clock personnel outside his home and armed escorts during his movements.
Police also conduct security checks at locations he visits and deploy additional personnel when necessary. The investigation is continuing, with officers examining the alleged firearm supply chain, electronic evidence and connections between the accused.
