The script you will hear
A video call shows people in uniform. They claim a parcel has drugs / a warrant is out / your Aadhaar is linked to a crime. They demand secrecy, a “safe account”, and immediate UPI or crypto. Real police do not run courts on WhatsApp.
What to do
Hang up. Tell family. Call official police helplines or 1930 and file on cybercrime.gov.in. Do not continue the call “to see if they are real”. Do not download remote-access apps.
If you already paid
Bank freeze + cyber complaint with UTRs the same day. Shame is the scam’s weapon — reporting is the counter.
